Christmas & Santas Grotto
In December 2017 the SO18 Big Local project held a very successful Christmas Fair. The highlight of the day was the Santa’s grotto where Father Christmas himself made an appearance along with his helpful elves! Father Christmas was kept very busy with a long line of excited children all ready with their Christmas wish list. All of the children that Father Christmas saw were on the good list!
One local crafts person had made a beautiful knitted nativity scene with Mary and Joseph along with the baby Jesus. The Three Wise Men made an appearance bearing their gifts for the baby along with the Shepherds and of course their sheep.
Another highlight was the presence of the local choir who had been practicing hard for their performance. The audience loved hearing the traditional carols and were encouraged to join in!
The highlight of the day was the candlelit parade. Everyone joined in with excited children dressed up in their Christmas outfits. Another popular attraction were the angels with their fabulous wings which can be seen in the photograph. How they didn’t knock anyone out with their wings remains a mystery but they certainly made a very festive sight !
SO18 volunteers were delighted with the support they received from the locals with people joining in at every level and with everyone enjoying themselves. It is certainly something the project wants to continue with so there is sure to be a repeat performance in 2018. How they will make the evening any better we don’t know but we’re sure that they will make it yet another local event to remember.
The SO18 team would like to thank everyone who got involved with the project and giving up their time to ensure their local community had an evening to remember.
