FAQ’s

How is TWICS funded?

TWICS has a number of funding streams:

  • It is currently funded to deliver training courses by Southampton City Council for residents living in the SO14 to SO19 postcode areas.  We bid for this funding on an annual basis.
  • Our Community Connectors project is funded by the Big Lottery under Awards for All
  • We deliver private training courses for which a charge is made.

Who are your tutors?

Our tutors are all self employed.  They are experts in their field and are all qualified with the Level 3 Award in Education and Training as a minimum.

Can I become a tutor for TWICS?

We are always looking for new tutors to work for us on a needs must basis.  Our tutors are able to work with a diverse range of people with different learning needs.  For example we deliver courses to learners who have severe learning difficulties or may not have a high level of literacy and numeracy.

I would like to become a tutor but don’t have the minimum teaching qualification – can you help?

We are keen to support people who would like to start out in the world of adult education.  We are able to help people achieve the qualification either through an online programme or by signposting to a local training provider.

I am interested in funding out more about community development – are you able to point me in the right direction?

TWICS has highly skilled staff with a wealth of experience in Community Development, particularly in the city of Southampton.  We run a course in Community Development once a year where you will meet others who are starting out in the field or have considerable experience.  Ask our training coordinator for details of the next course.

Are you able to provide training on the skills for a new voluntary Committee?

Yes, we are able to do this.  There may be a small cost or it may be able to be funded through our Southampton City Council contract.
